Matt's Class Featured on FoxNews

Hubby and I met in our first semester of college at the Louisiana Scholars' College at Northwestern State University. Truth be told, neither of us actually graduated from LSC but we made some wonderful friends there. One of those friends, Matt Saye, is now a professor at Ole Miss and has started a class called "The Living and the Un-Dead" in response to students requests for a less dense and boring literature course. Although FoxNews didn't bother to contact him regarding this article and may actually be trying to make it look like a waste of tuition money, we think it's pretty cool and couldn't be prouder of our dear friend. We actually got to hang out with Matt and his new lady in June while we were road tripping for summer vacation, but my camera battery died so I can't post any pictures. Oh well.

Zombies!

"What is it about the idea of a zombie that is so deeply unsettling," asks a $638.25 course on offer in the English department at Ole Miss.

In the class, "The Living and the Un-Dead," students will watch zombie films, read zombie books and write a zombie research paper -- which could leave zonked out college kids pulling all-nighters feeling pretty sympathetic to the living dead.

See the entire list here. Enjoy.

Feral Houses

Who doesn't love a big, old beautiful house? Heavens knows I don't like cleaning the little one that I have, but I fantasize about the day that hubby & I can buy one of those big old New Orleans houses that's overgrown with vines and weeds only to clean it all up and find a treasure trove of history. Nerdy, I know, but I buy into the concept of "sweat equity" and I think it makes the results oh so much sweeter. Anyway, I saw this blog picturing some of Detroit's "feral houses" and it, sadly, reminded me of some areas of my beloved city.

I think this would be a gorgeous fundraiser idea. Picturing some of New Orleans own feral houses, much like Kevin Roberts work.

Just a thought.
